Update of classification of insecticide products containing Tetramethrin
On the 4th of October 2018, Regulation (EU) 2018/1480 was published in the Official Gazette, amending Regulation 1272/2008 (CLP) updating the harmonized classification of various substances already present, including that of the active substance Tetramethrin (CAS No. 7696 -12-0).Starting from 1st May 2020, it will be mandatory to apply the new legislative provisions and immediately place on the market products indicating the new classification, without being able to take advantage of a period of stock disposal.
Therefore:
- the products already on the shelves with the old classification must be withdrawn from the market and re-labeled according to the provisions of the aforementioned regulation;
- stocks already purchased must be re-labeled in accordance with the new provisions of the CLP by the company owner in accordance with the provisions of TU 81/08 on safety in the workplace;
- stocks produced before that date will have to be labeled in accordance with the new provisions before being placed on the market.
Furthermore, in line with the transitional provisions of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, the application of the new harmonized classifications is allowed and the labeling and packaging can be adapted, on a voluntary basis, before the date of application of these new or harmonized classifications.
For products containing technical Tetramethrin in quantities equal to or greater than 1%, it will be mandatory to update the classification by applying the phrase H351 “Suspected of causing cancer”.
